This project started with a lot on Lake Minnetonka in Minnesota that was on the end of a cul-de-sac and we needed to take advantage of the lake views, so the home expands as the lake views expand. My client wanted good historical details and traditional space definition while being sympathetic to the more open room layout that fits today's lifestyle. They didn't want to compromise the 3-dimensional spaces and wanted an artful execution of the entryway.
“I love the scale of this house. The roof lines help bring the mass low to the ground and it's hard to tell it’s a three-story home. The way the house sits created a 'welcome to the garage' issue. As you drove into the cul-de-sac, you see the garage instead of the entry of the home. So, we gussied up the garage to look like similar to a carriage home; almost a 'house before the house'. This way, we still had great curb appeal and created a more private entryway.”
