There is one more week until Christmas! Everyone is warming their ovens, pulling pie and casserole recipes; and doing some last minute shopping. The family will soon be over and it’s time to get your home ready for the holidays! JMAD has pulled together some tips to get your home holiday ready!
Take a moment to consider the general theme you’d like to stick to. Decide if you want to go natural, traditional, red & white, white and silver, etc. Your theme can be unique to you; as long as its cohesive it will all come together! It’s also very easy to find decorations and inspiration ideas once you have a theme; it gets the creative juices flowing! We have collected a few theme ideas to give you inspiration:
Once you’ve picked your theme, follow through with your tree. We all have those ornaments we use every year to decorate –the kids ornaments, ones you’ve had since you were little, the crayons glued together with a bow—always use those of course. But you can actually still spruce up your tree to match your theme in addition to your traditions. Mix in a bit of colored ornaments, garlands, or tinsle to liven things up! There is also the option of having two trees—a family tree and a decorative tree. If you have the space that can be a great option! Here are some examples of what we mean.
If you’re struggling with what types of decorations to get for different areas of your house, you are not alone! Do you ever get to that spot in your bathroom where you are like, what to do with this?! Well we have pulled together some great ideas to liven up even the most awkward of spots.
You can use a mixture of linens, glassware and statement pieces to bring some visual interest to your tables. Natural elements like greenery can go a long way to add a little character and charm. You can even collect some of these items right in your backyard (pine-cones, berries, evergreen branches, holly, etc.). If you are up for a craft project with the kids, spray some pine-cones silver or gold for a little sparkle!
Holiday signs are always a warm and welcoming way to enter the home this time of year. Spruce up your entryway with some greenery, holy, a lantern, or old wooden sled. The sky is the limit for holiday themed items as long as you stick to a few focal points and don’t over do it. Adding some flickering battery operated candles can also add that extra touch of warmth.
Candles, candles, and more candles! A flickering candle in the bathroom is always a cozy look. Adding small touches like a hanging ornament in the mirror, a sprig snipped from your Christmas tree in a glass on the bathroom sink, or bundles of books with snipes in hues that coordinate with your theme can be the perfect touch!
The kitchen is the perfect place to use natural fruits and vegetables with holiday colors to bring a punch of color to your countertops. You can also utilize lantern or candle light in the kitchen as well to add warmth. Linens matching your color theme are also great to hang in front of the oven or sink as well as a decorative kitchen table cloth for a dining area. Adding some hanging snowflakes in the window or some birch branches in a vase to add that extra little touch of the holidays!
Whatever you decide to do to get ready for the holidays, make sure to have fun! Holidays are a time to bring together the family, so make sure to include the kids in your decorating, have your siblings and parents over and make it an event to share over a glass of wine! We hope we have helped make your holidays a little easier or at least give you some direction to get your home ready for the holidays!
