Outbuildings are niche buildings like a horse barn, pool house or an ADU. We love designing them and make sure they’re in harmony with the big picture. We design them not so much as smaller versions of the bigger building on the property, but one that reflects the same, original intent. Then we make sure it functions fully as its own space.
amazing Grace
Our client needed a guest house designed as part of a larger family campus in the Brainerd Lakes area of northern Minnesota. Storms had taken out the previous guest home, so the challenge was to design a comfortable, cozy, cottage-like space with an indoor - outdoor feel. After all, lake life is about enjoying the great outdoors. Our client had a lots of ideas about the space, including wanting a lot of sunlight coming in and home that would make the people in it feel at peace. You’d never guess that this guest home is just 900 square feet! Purposeful, thoughtful architectural design made it happen. She loves it so much, she ended up naming it Amazing Grace.

When you receive a gift like a live animal, you need a prized setting to care for it. When a client we previously designed a home for was gifted with a horse, that’s exactly what they needed! Designed with durable materials, an open design made for plenty of airflow, several horse stalls and even several dog stalls, we created the perfect place for the owner to develop a relationship with the animals.
