The Modern Nest

"We seriously got weak in the knees and had to kneel when we entered the home. Which seems appropriate…it's truly a heavenly respite, our nest. Thank you for this jaw dropping gift!! I feel like I'm walking in a dream!”

We can’t ask for higher praise for our Modern Nest design. It comes from listening to how our clients want to live within a space. Here, we knew they wanted a home that felt like it belonged with the land, and a fireplace crafted to feel old – like a remnant from a previous home. This is not unlike a lodge: a sturdy, massive, historic fireplace with a strong presence upon arrival and as you move around the main level. The straight, clean lines elevate the rustic feel to a modern look.

We worked hard to make the home work with the lay of the land and to ensure the views captured that. We designed a bridge that goes over a small river. To bring light into the lower level, the bridge goes over a pathway and underneath a link that connects the garage to the house.

Everything takes advantage of all the views, front and back, with light coming in from all directions. They’re in the woods, so views happen from the entry, to the right, the end of the building where it projects out into a ravine area of the land; that’s where their deck is and their porch cantilevers out into that space and takes advantage of that whole area.
